Anonymous 1724 Use - Medicinal  root of small fern boiled and resulting liquid used to treat bloody flux. "The best and the most prompt remedy that I have seen for the bloody flux is the root of the fern which bears very small seeds; it is necessary to boil it over a small fire or to steep it until the water is red; and when it has diminished about a third; make the patient take a quarter of a litre on an empty stomach until a complete cure. One can take it in the evening to be cured sooner; three; four; or fives times at least will do the trick"
