Biography/Notes:
Louisa was the daughter of Michael M. Geboe, a Civil War veteran, and Nancy Childres. Her father never fully recovered from the war, and claimed disability after returning to Kansas. He passed away August 19, 1877, leaving Louisa an orphan at only five years old. She was raised in the household of her relative Akima Kitahsaakana (Chief David Geboe). She married Samuel Alfred Leonard in Columbus, Kansas, on August 1, 1891. Their first son James Wilbur (“Leggy”) was born in 1892, followed by Gabriel (“Gib”), Joseph (“Hike”), Ruby, Martha Pearl, David (“Bus”), Grace, Mabel, Samuel, Hansel, Donald, Minnie (“Beezy”), and Henry. Louisa died at the young age of 46. Just about all the Leonard boys worked in the lead and zinc mines of Picher, and some descendants later moved to Washington, Idaho, and Ohio.
