"I have discovered that the section of Land granted to me at the treaty of St. Mary's has been located within the Indian Reserve, near the forks of the Wabash--As this is an unfortunate location for me & as I can see no means of arriving at or recieving [sic] its value, other than through Congress--I have in consequence, the honor respectfully to ask your attention & influence in having the said Land, paid for in money--" (Wm Wayne Wells to Tipton) Tipton paper 2: 477 (he gets $1,280 for it in 1832, 477n. 36). Articles of a treaty made and concluded, at St. Mary's, in the State of Ohio, between Jonathan Jennings, Lewis Cass, and Benjamin Parke, Commissioners of the United States, and the Miame nation of Indians.
